+ Gideon's Broth

by: John W. Gray III on 02/20/2008

"The Angel of God said to him, "Take the meat and the unleavened bread and lay [them] on this rock, and pour out the broth." And he did so." Judges 6:20 NKJV

Hallelujah! Glory to God! He is worthy to be praised!

Remember the last manna? I told you about my brother Jeff? Pray for his wife and daughter? Remember now? The reason why I asked for your prayers was because the doctor told them that she had breast cancer. I told her it was a lie. I told her to go back. IT WON'T BE THERE!

Guess what?

They went back to the doctor yesterday. IT'S NOT THERE! NOTHING! NO CANCER! DO YOU HEAR ME TYPING? GOD IS A HEALER! YES HE IS! PRAISE GOD! AND YOU'RE NEXT! IT'S YOUR TURN! WHAT DO YOU NEED? IT'S TIME FOR YOURS NOW! NOW WE PRAY FOR JEFF AND VICTORIA'S DAUGHTER, MY LITTLE NIECE BRIANNA. THE DOCTORS AND THE devil ARE SAYING IRREVERSIBLE JUVENILE ARTHRITIS. LIAR! LOOSE HERE devil AND LET HER GO! NOW! ANYBODY OUT THERE WITH ME? PRAISE GOD RIGHT NOW FOR HER HEALING!

Enough with the capital letters. You get the point. God did it. But why is that so shocking? Why don't we expect more of these kinds of reports? Perhaps it's because we believe people more than we believe the word of the Lord. Per chance it is the fact that we as believers have never had to exercise our faith for anything supernatural because we haven't been trained by our leaders to do so. Whatever the case may be, we should never be surprised by God's greatness or His willingness and ability to do the impossible on our behalf.

Many of us are in need of a miracle, a breakthrough of some sort and even a second touch from God. We've been through so much and our faith used to be strong but now we're weak. Maybe you've missed God in key areas of your life and made regrettable mistakes that cause you to feel that you will never be able to recover. Maybe no one in your family ever told you that you were worthy of the love of God. Maybe you didn't believe you were worthy. Maybe you talked yourself into believing that having God's best didn't apply to you.

Maybe

Maybe you're Gideon.

Gideon was born into a bad situation. Upon reading the entire book of Judges chapter six, you will see that Gideon's clan was the weakest, least respected within the tribe of Manasseh. To go further, Gideon was the weakest of everyone within his own family. That's a double whammy. Your family is weak. You're the weakest link in your family. Have you ever felt like the black sheep in your family? Does your family think you're crazy because you go to church so much? Do your family members laugh at you when you talk about God? Does your family whisper about you because of your faith? Maybe you're Gideon.

Gideon didn't think much of himself. If you read the story, the Lord showed up and declared blessings and favor over Gideon. The Lord called Gideon a mighty man of valor-the very opposite in character to what Gideon was manifesting. Do you know that some of you are not walking in your divine calling because you refuse to move into the place of greatness and destiny that God has called you into based on your perception of yourself? God says one thing. You believe your own report, your own eyes and your own assessment of who and what you are and what you carry. You're so sure of what you're not that you won't allow God to tell you who you are.

Gideon, are you there?

Gideon talked down about himself and his family. He didn't just come up with that stuff. He got it from somewhere. Maybe his mom or dad or siblings dogged him out. Whoever it was, they got inside Gideon's mind and their lying words and faulty assessment got ingrained in Gideon's mindset. Many of us have listened to the voices of family and "friends" over the voice of God. Stop it. Don't let it continue. Let God be true and every man be a liar! Believe God's word over even your own facts.

The fact may be that you come from a bad family situation or a less-than-ideal financial background. But facts about where you are, and the truth of who you are, are two different things. One does not always correlate with the other. That is why it is essential for you to rid yourself of negative voices and spiritual detritus that sits on the inside of you, hindering your ability to see God clearly and receive His word concerning your life.

How do you free yourself from the cycle of listening to lying voices and jealous family members who don't have your anointing? How do you stop yourself from seeing the negative first all the time? How do you find your way out of the maze of self- deprecation and devaluation?

Get an offering.

Bring it before the Lord. Lay it on the rock. Allow Him to consume your offering and free you from the demonic mindset that you are less than.

When Gideon was about to take off into his destiny, he got an offering prepared for the Lord. The Lord told Gideon to take the meat and the wheat (unleavened bread) and place it on the rock. The meat is symbolic of your substance, your possessions or your money or whatever holds intrinsic value or worth in your eyes. The wheat is symbolic of what is produced by the work of your hands. What did you plant? What have you cultivated? What are your gifts and talents? In what areas has God gifted you in that can be a blessing to someone else? God wants those gifts presented back to Himself. Offer God the best of who you are and watch as He anoints it and gives it right back to you to use for the Kingdom.

The last thing God wants you to do is to pour out the broth. Broth is water based. Broth has the flavor of the meat or spices that may be a part of the offering. But God doesn't want the broth. He doesn't need broth. He is broth. Broth is symbolic of water. Water is symbolic of the word. Jesus is the living water. He doesn't need broth. He is broth.

Gideon's broth is symbolic of his own misperceptions about God's word and character based on misinformation received over a lifetime of experiences. Gideon's broth represents his mindset, his thoughts and his ideas about how God views him and his family and his situation. Gideon's broth is what we carry when we charge God with wrongdoing based on our limited sightlines in the spirit when trouble comes.

Gideon's broth is all of his mixture, anger, hostility, fear and pride rolled into one concoction. Gideon's broth is homemade. His mom helped him. Dad too. His surrounding friends and family added to the recipe. But it's a poisonous stew. Gideon's broth will kill your hopes and dreams. It will spoil what God wants to do in and through you. It will mess up the rest of the meal that God has planned that is your life.

That's why God told Gideon to pour it out. Now it's your turn. Before God releases you into your destiny, why don't you pour out every negative thing you ever heard about God and His word out of your spirit and into the drain. Find yourself pouring out all the unclean thoughts and ungodly beliefs that you've been taught by family and friends that doesn't line up with the truth of God's word. Pour out every lie, every fragment of your past and, most importantly, your own tattered self image, out your life for good.

God can use your resources and your talents. He can't and won't use your broken self-image and demonically seeded beliefs about who you are. Get rid of all the stuff holding you back from believing God for His best. It's time now Gideon. Go and be great. God has said so. Will you listen and receive the water of His word, or your own homemade broth?

Something's cooking.

I think it's spoiled.

It's your broth.

Keep pouring it out.
